Helping growers overcome technical and economic challenges to their businesses will be AHDB’s focus at Cereals 2018.
The AHDB stand will be at the heart of the show’s newly-created Agronomy zone and will feature its new Fungicide Futures initiative, the Great Soils programme of work and the ongoing review of the Recommended Lists.
The popular Monitor Farm debate will return on both days, discussing and bringing to life some of the key issues facing agriculture and how on-farm activities are supporting decision making.
Martin Grantley-Smith, AHDB Cereals & Oilseeds Strategy Director, said: “Our focus at the show will remain on technical challenges facing agriculture, like the potential loss of fungicides and increased resistance. But knowing how to address technical challenges is only one part of being ready and fit for the future in a post-Brexit world. So our experts will also be on hand to provide robust economic and business information to help farmers and growers get in the best possible position for the months and years ahead.”
For the first time, the AHDB stand will not feature any Recommended Lists plots as growers will instead have the opportunity to attend an enhanced programme of variety plot open days, dubbed Arable Connections.
The events this summer will see AHDB partner with other organisations to open up trials sites, allowing growers to explore variety and market options for their region.
It follows a commitment made by the organisation in its 2017 – 2020 Inspiring Success strategy to provide more relevant regional information to levy payers to support marketing decisions.
Martin added: “This will allow us demonstrate variety, quality and yield information at a local level to support farmers and growers in making well-informed decisions. In addition, by providing this level of detail at a regional level, we can focus on and embrace the wider, national challenges and opportunities facing agriculture at the Cereals event.”
