Greenvale unveils its own food and potato trends report

Greenvale AP one of the UK’s leading suppliers of fresh potatoes has unveiled it’s inaugural food and potato trends report. The research looks at a number of food trends predicted to have made an impact in 2018.  The report then extends further homing in on trends within the potato market.

Tracey Mattock, marketing manager at Greenvale said “If you browse food related websites and social media channels it won’t be long before you come across a new trend in food, predicting to change our eating habits. We wanted to investigate how many of these predictions actually manifest themselves into something that becomes part of our everyday repertoire and how many trends pass as a fad?”

With the help of over 400* UK shoppers, Greenvale explored 2018 food trends alongside changes in grocery shopping and eating habits to find out just what might be next on our plates in 2019.

Ms Mattock continued “The aim of the research was to discover just how potatoes may play a role in these new culinary times and remain “on trend”. As a business we want to ensure that we are able to react and respond to changing times. We want potatoes to succeed for all of our customers whilst delivering the needs of the modern consumer.”

Greenvale’s research supported many of the trends well documented today, with meat free products, health and in-home food technology piquing the interest of the UK shopper.

And what was discovered for potatoes? Well, the clear winner in 2018 was fresh baking potatoes with 10% of shoppers claiming to have been eating more over the past 12 months. This statistic is firmly supported by Kantar data which shows category volume growth of 6% YoY.

And 2019, well of fifteen new food trends predicted to grow this year the revival of hasselback potatoes and loaded potato wedges scored well, coming in at positions 2nd and 4th respectively with the respondents.

Ms Mattock concludes, “We are looking forward to sharing the full output of our research with our customers and a wider audience.
