Top two performing OSR varieties in 2015 RL highlight DSV breeding success

Not only does DSV share joint honours with Monsanto for the breeding of the overall 2015/16 HGCA Recommended List topping HOLL variety V316 OL, it also has the top performing mainstream variety with the new hybrid Popular.

The company’s variety Incentive, which topped both Northern and East/West HGCA Recommended lists last year, is also singled out as having the highest yield achieved over the last four years of all current RL varieties.

“Consistency of performance in the field is a key breeding priority for DSV as the yield results of Incentive from 2011-2014 clearly shows,” says DSV UK managing director Mike Mann.

“We are confident that our latest variety Popular will be equally consistent and that its performance will also be a class leader for many years to come.”
The HGCA’s four-year figures show Incentive scored an average yield of 106.4% of control, with Charger in second place at 105.6% and Harper third at 103.9%.
DSV’s new variety Popular is the highest performing mainstream variety in the 2015/16 East/West Recommended List with a gross output of 107.4% of control, an oil content of 46.0% and scores of 8 for both lodging resistance and stem stiffness.

Popular is just beaten to top spot overall by the High Oleic:Low Linoleic variety V316 OL from the Vistive breeding programme of DSV and Monsanto.

“V316 OL is a real triumph and just pips Popular to top spot with a gross output of 109.0% and the same 46.0% oil content,” Mike Mann says.

“V316 OL’s top spot overall, Popular’s ranking as the highest performing mainstream variety and Incentive’s long-term yield achievements are all tributes to the breeding excellence of DSV in recent years and form the perfect foundation for many exciting new varieties to be introduced in the years to come.”
