Farming Industry Awards nominations open

Do you have what it takes to be a winner?

Do you consider yourself as among the best in your field? Is there something about your business that stands out from the rest?

If so, you should consider entering the Farm Business Food and Farming Industry Awards, which are now open for business. Each year, the awards celebrate the best in food and farming, recognising excellence across farming and food retailing.

There are three new categories this year, reflecting our desire to highlight the innovation and management skills that drive excellence in our sector – Food Innovation of the Year, Farm Innovation of the Year and Farm Manager of the Year.

As ever, the awards will be presented at a prestigious ceremony at The House of Commons, this year held on Friday, December 1. All finalists will be offered two complimentary tickets to attend the evening, hosted by their category sponsor.

Guests will have the opportunity to take a tour of the Houses of Parliament before a champagne drinks reception in the Strangers Bar followed by a three course dinner in the Members’ Dining Room, after which the award winners will be announced by our guest host BBC deputy political editor, John Pienaar.

The celebrations continue at the after show party, this year being held at The Blue Boar Bar just a 5 minute walk away.

Lewis Business Media managing director Simon Lewis said: “These awards go from strength-to-strength every year and we are delighted to be launching the 2017 version.

“The purpose of the awards is to showcase and celebrate the people and businesses who make this industry what it is. We have had some wonderful winners in the past with eye-catching stories and I very much look forward to seeing this year’s entries.

“It is always a very special awards night in the House of Commons and, after the superb job done by Gyles Brandreth last year, I am thrilled to announce the BBC’s John Pienaar as our 2017 host.

“Thank you, as always, to our sponsors and to Neil Parish MP for Tiverton & Honiton for hosting the awards night.”

This edition of Farm Business Digital features another award winner (see page 10) – a farm that turned the potential crisis of a motorway running through their land into a retail opportunity and today employs 90 people with a turnover of £90m.

Simon added: “The Westmorland Family is exactly the sort of business these awards are all about – a powerful business story but with their roots still very much in farming. I am sure there are plenty where they came from – so get your 2017 entries in!”
