The Glyphosate saga is more reminiscent of a Christmas panto than an informed political debate, according to NFU vice president Guy Smith.

In the latest edition of Farm Business, he outlines the complex EU ‘politics’ that has led us to situation where this vital chemical has still not had its licence renewed – as the deadline rapidly approaches. At least in this ‘ridiculous farce’, the UK Government is firmly in the ‘full reauthorisation’ camp.

The same can’t be said for neonicotinoids, however. Michael Gove has announced that the UK is now backing EU plans for a blanket ban on the pesticides, as he continues to strive to enhance UK environmental standards and deliver a green Brexit.
