Norfolk-based seed breeder DSV UK Ltd is offering growers in the Somerset Levels £45 off every bag of its hybrid oilseed rape seed ordered in 2014 to help them redrill crops when water levels subside.
The offer covers both Spring and Winter oilseed rape seed and DSV UK managing director Mike Mann hopes suppliers of other inputs will also join forces to help growers in the worst hit areas.
“We have all been shocked by the impact the recent bad weather has had on growers in Somerset and know that many hundreds of acres of crops have been ruined.
“We appreciate this is a relatively small gesture in the context of the devastation many have faced, but if everybody in the industry supported farmers in a similar way it would make a big difference to helping them get back on their feet.”
Growers applying for the offer will have to contact their merchants and provide evidence of crops drilled in the form of seed invoices or receipts together with drilling maps and also photographic evidence of flooding experienced.
