AHDB is inviting new and soon-to-be qualified agronomists to a new event later this month to foster close links with those starting out in their careers.

Taking place from 22-23 October, the Agronomists’ Induction will introduce industry newcomers to AHDB staff, services, publications and tools while spreading the word on Integrated Pest Management (IPM).

The event is specifically aimed at new agronomists, covering IPM for both arable farming and horticulture. There will also be exhibitions from BBRO, PGRO and LEAF.

Delegates will have the opportunity to meet their regional Knowledge Exchange Manager and register to attend upcoming business and technical meetings, including local Monitor Farm and Strategic Farms events.

“This is a chance for new entrants to the industry to meet AHDB staff and learn all about what we do and how we can help them,” said AHDB Knowledge Transfer Manager, Emily Pope. “It’s a great networking opportunity to meet their future colleagues as they set out on their careers.”

A number of the induction talks will focus on how agronomists can encourage farmers to adopt an IPM approach to growing crops.

“We hope that by encouraging agronomists to adopt AHDB tools for IPM at the start of their careers, it will be possible to secure greater participation in this increasingly important practice,” said Ms Pope.

Delegates will also hear about crop protection and production, environment, resource management and using the Recommended Lists, with additional talks on benchmarking and introducing livestock into the arable rotation.

The event, which will take place at Holiday Inn Peterborough West, is free to attend, but those interested must book to secure their place.
