‘Real world’ variety plots on view at Arable Event

Farmers attending this year’s Arable Event will be able to see for themselves how crops perform under ‘real world’ conditions, claim the event organisers, with trial plots reflecting the reality of climate volatility.

Joe Wood, seed sales Manager at Wynnstay, says. “As with any farm, we are driven by the weather, and due to the incredibly wet autumn drilling was delayed until October 30. But this is representative and means that farmers can assess a variety’s suitability to our increasingly challenging autumn conditions.”

Managed by Wynnstay’s arable department, plots this year include a comprehensive selection of leading barley and hybrid barley varieties, oats, triticale, hybrid rye and multiple top-performing wheat varieties.

Hosted by industry specialists, plot tours will give farmers a full and interactive overview of all market leading varieties.

Organised by Wynnstay and Grainlink, this year’s Arable Event takes place on 18th June at Weston Under Lizard, part of Bradford Estates on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border. It starts at 9am and runs through to 5pm.

Guest speakers on the day include farming YouTube star Olly “Blogs” Harrison, Roy Jackson and Claire Smith, both rural partners at WR Partners, Joe Lloyd from the rural research team at Savills and industry experts Gareth Jones from FMC and Mark Tripney from LKAB.

Free refreshments are included and BASIS & NRoSO points are available to attendees.
