McDonald’s has opened applications for its Progressive Young Farmers (PYF) programme for the 2027/28 academic year.
The programme offers young people a unique, paid 12-month placement, providing hands-on experience across every stage of the McDonald’s supply chain, from farm to front counter.
Successful applicants will work alongside farmers, suppliers and industry experts across the UK and Ireland, gaining first-hand insight into the McDonald’s food supply chain and the people who help shape it.
The programme explores farm-level resilience and regenerative agriculture to improving productivity, efficiency and food security. Along the way, they will be mentored by agricultural specialists from some of McDonald’s key supplier partners, including Pilgrim’s Europe, Kepak, Dawn Meats, Cranswick, McCain, Kinisla, Noble & The Lakes, Arla and OSI, gaining experience across a wide range of agricultural sectors and disciplines.
Ellie Wotherspoon, agriculture and sustainable sourcing manager, McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: “We’re proud to open applications for the next cohort of our Progressive Young Farmers programme. What makes the programme so special is the breadth of experience it offers. Participants gain first-hand exposure to every stage of the McDonald’s supply chain – from farm to front counter – while developing a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities shaping the future of food and farming.
For students who are passionate about farming, food, agriculture or sustainability, this really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It could be the first step into a hugely rewarding career, and I’d encourage anyone interested to apply.”
The programme is now open for applications from full-time undergraduates studying at college or university across the UK and Ireland who are passionate about a career in food, farming or the supply chain.
