The Opportunity:  Grow your career and plant the seeds of success in this exciting agronomy role for a thriving and forward thinking business.  The Fresh Produce Agronomist will join a passionate and committed team at our client’s site in the heart of England, Warwickshire.  Bringing your in depth knowledge and hands on experience of crop production and soil management, you will be responsible for managing the full crop cycle from farm through to fork.  Your core focus will be on optimising the growing conditions and quality of the crop throughout the cycle to ensure the quality that  our client is renowned for.  Working cohesively and effectively across the team, you will keep them abreast of any production changes and will be willing to develop and explore  innovative solutions to improve crop yields and sustainability.

Role Responsibilities:

  • To develop and manage crop production plans to maximise product growth and quality
  • To review and evaluate the soil fertility, applying suitable fertilisation and irrigation requirements to provide optimal growing conditions for the crop
  • To walk the crops on a regular basis, constantly reviewing and assessing the crop health and quality
  • To provide regular updates on the progress of the crop, highlighting any obstacles that may affect production
  • To collect and record data in relation to crop performance e.g. fertilisation and pest control
  • To maintain and adhere to food safety standards and industry regulations e.g. LEAF, Red Tractor
  • To stay updated on trends, developments, and technological advances in the sector

 

Skills you will need:
Essential:

  • Previous agronomy experience
  • BASIS qualified
  • Knowledge and understanding of crop nutrition, soil fertility and pest management
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to transfer technical knowledge effectively
  • Organised with a keen eye for detail
  • An analytical thinker, who can think outside the box to resolve problems
  • A collaborative team player
  • The willingness to be hands on when required
  • A flexible approach to work and changing workloads

Desirable:

  • A degree qualification in agriculture or a related subject
  • Previous experience in salad line cultivation
