Leading Crop Production Specialists Hutchinsons have appointed David Neale as a specialist consultant to their seed business.

David will provide consultancy support across several areas of the business, including the development of new opportunities for the fast growing Hutchinsons seed business within a rapidly changing sector for the breeding, production, treatment and marketing of seeds.

David will also support the development of business opportunities with Hutchinsons agronomy teams in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire and surrounding areas and will provide the business with insight and updates on activities in the grain marketing sector.

A 5th generation Cotswold farmer David who still lives on a farm in the Cotswolds, started his career with a family merchanting business, before successfully running the UK’s largest seed plant and then moving to a central management role, where he was responsible for all issues related to seed varieties, seed treatments, crop nutrition and end-markets.

David has been involved in all aspects of farm supply, from animal feed, cultivation systems, research and development, grain storage and end markets, however his main passion has always been in the seed industry, including breeding programmes and the production and sales of arable, forage and grass seeds.

David remains a life-time supporter of LEAF and Open Farm Sunday and is a well known figure, giving regular farm talks around the UK.

“It’s an exciting time to be joining such a dynamic, forward-thinking and innovative business as Hutchinsons and I am very much looking forward to contributing towards the ongoing success of the Hutchinsons seed team.”

“My objective is to support the development of our offers, so that our growers can fully benefit from the range of new seed technologies that are rapidly approaching the marketplace. “

“It is essential that these new technologies are grown in the right place and for the right reasons, to ensure that they deliver genuine value to growers and further contribute towards  the sustainability and profitability of our farming systems,” says Mr Neale.

“This is a challenging but dynamic time for the seed industry and we are all delighted that David is joining the Hutchinsons team at such an exciting time. David’s unrivalled knowledge and experience within this sector, combined with his infectious enthusiasm for providing the best possible support for his customers and his colleagues, will add tremendous breadth and depth to our seed advice and supply services,” says Hutchinsons Managing Director, Andrew McShane.
