Horsch has announced that it has taken a strategic stake in Sam-Dimension, with which it has been in partnership with since 2019.
Horsch sees spot spraying as vital going forward with rising costs, shorter application windows and environmental considerations. It also points to increasing chemical resistance in weeds such as blackgrass and ryegrass.
It feels that precision spot spraying is the answer rather than applying agents across the whole field. This closer integration will enable better integration within the Horsch range.
Sam-Dimension enables crop surveillance via drones before the sprayer enters the field, meaning that spray maps are created prior to application and available offline. Data is analysed by AI using cloud servers, enabling large amounts of data to be processed and the models to be continually refined.
Although the current potential is in row crops such as sugar beet and maize, Horsch recognises that more cereal growers are looking at spot or patch spraying.
Application maps from Sam can already be transferred directly to Horsch terminals via the MyHorsch platform. The EOS terminal can currently provide the high processing power needed.
