Severn Trent is issuing a final application call to farmers and landowners for its latest round of Spring STEPS for biodiversity funding, which closes on 31 October.

Dr Alex Cooke, principal catchment management scientist at Severn Trent, explains that Spring STEPS works in a similar format to the wider STEPS grant programme but offers funding options specifically for biodiversity projects.

“We’ve had an impressive uptake of applications this year, resulting in a great number of biodiversity improvements in our catchments – from diverse herbal leys and wildflower margins to pollinator meadows and birdseed,” she says.

“There are just a few weeks left to apply for funding available for on-farm enhancements, to ensure all options are completed by 1 March 2024.

There are six biodiversity options available as part Spring STEPS from annual pollinator mixes to feeding farmland birds.

For support with helping to improve farmland biodiversity and protect natural habitats, she encourages farmers and landowners to contact their local agricultural adviser to investigate their options and eligibility or visit the Severn Trent website at; www.stwater.co.uk/steps
