Data from United Oilseeds shows that Pi Pinnacle is the most popular conventional OSR variety this season, with the organisation saying the area sown equates to 56% of the conventional variety sector this autumn.
Pinnacle is bred in the UK by independent plant breeder Mike Pickford, who received positive feedback last harvest. “Many growers reported excellent performance from Pinnacle off the combine and have sown it again this autumn,” he says.
Pinnacle is the highest-yielding conventional variety across all AHDB regions and fully recommended in the UK. Official trials show its vigour and establishment match Campus.
Becki Gibbs, seed manager for United Oilseeds, adds. “There are a number of excellent varieties available on the new Recommended List which have been bred to overcome some of the challenges faced by rape growers and Pinnacle is an example of this, proving itself yet again with a strong performance in the field. I strongly encourage growers to keep OSR in their rotations for the many benefits it brings. This year we have seen it achieve the highest gross margins on many farms, and with the AHDB /OSR Reboot management strategies now released, it is possible to stay on top of historical pests.”
