A collaboration with farmer Richard Beaty has seen Grange Machinery launch into the trailed sector with its 6m trailed Low Disturbance Loosener (LDL).
The (LDL) has been two years in the making and was developed in response to increasing demand for a trailed soil loosener. The first machine was sold by Class Manns’ Market Harborough depot, which was also involved in the development of the 6m trailed LDL.
The LDL paves the way for the development of further trailed implements as Grange expands its portfolio to cater for different growing systems in the UK, Europe and the southern hemisphere.
The trailed LDL sports the same features as the mounted version of the machine, including low disturbance loosening legs at 0.5m spacing, hydraulic front cutting discs, and is compatible with a range of rear packer rollers.
However, with the addition of a drawbar unit, the new model is not only set up for farms using trailed implements but it also enables the company to scale future machines.
“As the trailed machine can be pulled by lower horsepower tractors, it opens the door to us building bigger machines,” says Grange Machinery managing director, Rhun Jones. “The core chassis enables us to go wider.”
The company has received requests to produce a trailed loosener in the past. But the real impetus came when Richard asked Claas Manns for a trailed soil loosener and the dealership approached Grange. “It’s a big milestone for us and I’m delighted we turned the plan into reality,” adds Rhun.
Richard Beaty adds the unit demonstrates what is possible when producers and manufacturers work together. “The great thing about working with a British manufacturer is that you can have direct input, which translates through to the end product design.
“Grange was very good at listening to what I needed, but also to what the wider market needed, and developed a machine that is closely aligned to that. Initial field testing has been very successful and I’m excited to find out what we can do with the machine from here on in.”
