Grimme launch RH-series Powercombi at Agritechnica

Grimme’s range of potato handling equipment has been given a significant boost thanks to the new addition of the PowerCombi to the RH range, which shall be launched at Agritechnica in November.

Operating with up to 98% efficiency and requiring only one individual to run it; the new grader has a high capacity 28m3 receiving hopper followed by three highly efficient, 2.4m wide PU coil separators and finally an optical sorter. This gives an output of around 100t/hr; a 25% increase on previous models with the benefit of a reduction in labour costs.

A well positioned and spacious inspection platform offers good all-round visibility of the whole separation system.

The first separator has three banks of infinitely adjustable rollers made out of highly durable polyurethane plastic (PU). The first eights coils are for separating loose soil and breaking up lumps of soil. The remaining thirteen coils divided into two separators is for split grading clods and smaller potatoes from the main crop.

Following the PU coils is an inspection table leading onto the new high performance optical Field Potato Sorter (FPS), which removes lumps, stones and other waste products. Built by the specialist company Tomra, the FPS scans all items “on the fly” with an infrared sensor and flicks out recognized lumps, stones and other unwanted waste with small hardwearing plastic fingers. A large operator terminal which is easy to use shows the operator all information on the separating processes.

An electro-mechanical sensor above the main product conveyor avoids the danger of the FPS getting damaged by items such as large stones or wood.

The PowerCombi also benefits from two CLS clod and stone separators which perform secondary grading of the undersized produce; boosting efficiency up to 98%. Clods, stones and potatoes gently bounce of a rotating drum with potatoes being deflected into a produce conveyor and stones and clod being deflected into a trash conveyor. An air hose is also fitted as standard to aid with cleaning the PowerCombi.
