A free training course on peatland restoration is available via the BASIS Classroom.

Developed in collaboration with Defra, the course covers how peatlands function in both lowland and upland settings, strategies for sustainable management and support schemes, including future Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT) options.

“Peatlands are among the UK’s most valuable ecosystems, playing a crucial role in carbon storage, water purification, and biodiversity. The need for practical, informed advice on how to manage them has never been greater. That’s why we’re proud to announce the launch of two new peatland management training modules, now available via the BASIS Classroom. Developed in collaboration with Defra these online courses are designed to support advisers in delivering high-quality, evidence-based guidance on sustainable peatland practices,” says environment lead Thomas Vaughan.

The training is fully online, allowing users to complete it at a time that suits them.
