Merfyn Parry, agronomist with ProCam, has been elected to the Basis Membership Committee as its FACTS Qualified Advisor (FQA) for a three-year-term.

A member of ProCam’s County Crops team based at Burscough in Lancashire, Mr Parry specialises in maize, wheat, barley, fodder beet and grassland agronomy and works with farmers on Anglesey and in the Vale of Clwyd in North Wales. He also provides bespoke fertiliser and crop nutrition advice and is FACTS (Fertiliser Advisers Certification and Training Scheme) qualified.

Mr Parry said: “It’s an honour, and something of a surprise to have been elected to the BASIS committee. I’ve seen a lot of changes since I started working as an agronomist for County Crops in 1986, and have taken a lot of knowledge, interest and pleasure out of an industry that I remain very passionate about.

“I put myself forward for the position knowing that the time was right for me to give something back to the sector, and I look forward to representing my profession and to helping to shape future farming practices and policies.

“With the efficient use of plant nutrients and soil health coming under increasing scrutiny, I hope to make a positive difference to the way food is produced by helping the country’s primary producers make better use of the resources available to them, not only for the benefit of their farming systems, but also for the ecosystems in which they live and work.”

Diane Heath, managing director of ProCam in the UK commented: “On behalf of everyone at ProCam, I’d like to congratulate Merfyn on his appointment to the BASIS Membership Committee.

“Merfyn epitomises everything that ProCam stands for in terms of his professionalism, practical understanding of, and passion for agriculture, and I know he’ll put his heart and soul into ensuring he represents the needs of the industry to the very best of his abilities.”
