Longcliffe Agricultural Products will use Lamma to launch SpHerical Granulated Lime, a high purity, highly reactive lime (calcium carbonate). According to the company, it rapidly optimises soil pH, elevates soil calcium concentration, improves soil structure and enhances crop health.
Produced in the UK using the highest quality lime extracted from Longcliffe’s Derbyshire quarries, the mineral is milled into finely ground particles and combined with a calcium lignosulphonate liquid binder to create SpHerical granules of between 2 and 5mm in diameter. These granules remain intact during processing and application, reducing dust and waste while improving spreading accuracy.
After application, the granules settle on the soil surface and the binder dissolves, releasing the calcium carbonate directly into the soil, enabling it to rapidly penetrate to plant roots.
Granulated lime breaks down quickly on contact with moisture to optimise soil pH faster than traditional bulk lime, unlocking the nutrients already in the soil and maximising the efficiency of applied fertiliser– reducing waste. Optimising soil pH also locks up antagonistic elements, such as iron and aluminium, which can have a detrimental effect on plant growth.
Spreading can be very targeted and on a field-by-field basis, which reduces waste and enhances cost efficiency. Granulated lime can be applied at any time of the year by a standard fertiliser spreader, when ground conditions allow, avoiding the need for specialist contractors and heavy machinery. Certified by the OF&G) it is suitable for use on organic farms and is ideally suited to a regenerative farming programme.
Recognising the important role of sulphur and magnesium in soil health, Longcliffe will also be launching SpHerical S and SpHerical Mag to address deficiencies in these essential macronutrients.
