The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) has named New Holland 2023 GuardianTM Front Boom Sprayer with PLM IntelligenceTM and Pro-BeltTM Series Variable Chamber Round Balers winner of a 2023 AE50 award.

AE50 awards honor the year’s most innovative designs in engineering products or systems for the food and agriculture industries. The AE50 awards program emphasizes the role of new products and systems in bringing advanced technology to the marketplace. These engineering developments help farmers, food processors and equipment manufacturers increase efficiency, enhance quality, improve safety, and increase profits.

Companies from around the world submit entries to the annual AE50 competition and up to 50 of the best products are chosen by a panel of international engineering experts. The judges select innovative products that will best advance engineering for the food and agriculture industries.

Carlo Lambro, Brand president New Holland Agriculture said: “We are pleased and honored to receive this prestigious award that is surely one of the most important in our sector. Our focus on innovation and technology is very strong and this recognition is an indication that we are on the right path. Congratulations and well done to all the international teams who worked on the two products rewarded.”

Overhauled electronic controls

The new 2023 Guardian Sprayer line-up was displayed for the first time at Farm Progress Show earlier this year, and it features overhauled electronic controls and off board connectivity. Upgrades include liquid management systems controls in the cab and fill station, a specifically featured armrest with multiple sprayer functions, and a full integration to the Precision Land Management (PLM) intelligence infrastructure offered by New Holland PLM connect systems and Raven Slingshot off board interfaces.

The liquid management systems improvements include a large, easy to use display at the fill station with new features including auto-fill, auto-sparge, and a suite of auto-rinsing functions. When paired with the new Intelliview 12 sprayer display and armrest in the cab, the operator has complete control of the sprayer. The PLM intelligence addition remotely provides all of the diagnostics and service information along with agronomic data to phone, tablet, or home office.

The 2023 Guardian Sprayer incorporates the IntelliSprayTM II next generation of precise nozzle control technology from Raven. This system is 2.5 times more accurate than comparable systems and provides nozzle by nozzle on/off overlap control, reducing overall crop protection input costs. These features combined with increased durability, power reduction and additional diagnostic capabilities delivers unmatched industry leading nozzle control technology.

Design based on feedback

The New Holland Pro-BeltTM series variable chamber round balers have been designed based on feedback New Holland collected through numerous customer test-drives conducted across the world – from North America to Australia, New Zealand and Europe, collectively producing 150,000 bales. Participants clearly expressed the performance characteristics they considered fundamental: crop versatility, capacity, and bale density and appearance. The new baler delivers on all counts with outstanding performance.

The machine is equipped with the ActiveDropTM rotor drop floor deliver the performance and durability required by baling contractors and high use farmers. The Pro-Belt series balers enhance the operator experience by providing information on the crop flow through the rotor by means of the ActiveDrop rotor floor and baler user interface. The ActiveDrop rotor drop floor provides an alert to the operator when the load on the rotor is approaching maximum capacity. This allows the operator to adjust their baling speed to avoid a rotor plug and increases overall productivity. Monitoring the position of the drop floor also provides the operator feedback on the relative engagement of the rotor cutter knives with incoming crop to maximize cut quality.

Both the Guardian Front Boom Sprayer and the Pro-Belt Baler will be featured in the January/February 2023 special issue of ASABE’s magazine Resource: Engineering & Technology for a Sustainable World.

ASABE is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to the advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems. Further information on the Society can be obtained by visiting www.asabe.org.
