Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced today that it has launched a new fleet of 17 trucks for ADM Direct, the company’s grains and oilseeds sourcing branch in the United Kingdom. The fleet, which will be based at ADM facilities in Erith, Purfleet and Corby, will be used to transport raw materials and finished goods to and from the company’s locations throughout the U.K.

“ADM Direct’s new fleet of trucks complement ADM’s global transportation network by allowing us to pick up grain from local farmers and deliver raw materials and finished goods to customers in a more timely manner,” said Martin Farrow, general manager, ADM Erith and ADM Direct. “The trucks also provide greater flexibility and control of our supply chain to help us adjust to market demands and better serve suppliers and customers alike.”

ADM owns and operates an expansive global transportation network—which currently includes 600 trucks, 1,300 trailers, 27,400 railcars, 2,500 barges and 52 oceangoing vessels—that moves crops from local elevators to processing plants and customers around the world. The company recently hired 17 drivers to operate the new trucks, Farrow said.

“By controlling as much of our supply chain as possible, we’re able to leverage ADM’s expertise and existing resources to operate more efficiently and optimize our fleets in a way that manages costs and provides more reliable service from the farm to our customers,” he added.
