Data from the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) shows that 999 tractors were registered last month.
The organisation says this is an increase of 17.3% on the previous year but it is below the five-year average by around 8%. Jan to June sales are also slightly below the average at 5,955 units.
It was at the lower and higher power scales that sales dropped off, tractors above 320hp falling by 13.1% at 153 units. The AEA believes some farmers are reducing their horsepower on farm, sales of 241-320hp machines rose significantly to 606 units. Overall, the AEA says that power bands have averaged out, meaning the average horsepower is around 173hp.
