KRM (Keith Rennie Machinery Ltd) has announced the launch of its new multi-purpose combined shredder, the Sprinter 8500P.
It operates as a combined unit consisting of a front-mounted Sprinter 2800 2.8m flail mower and a pair of 3.0m rear flail heads and is suitable for tractors from 200-400hp, suited to those requiring a high-capacity robust machine suitable for set aside, pasture topping and the maintenance of field margins.
If a customer already has a front-mounted topper, they could just purchase the rear unit.
These new models are based on the company’s existing range of flail mowers and enjoy the same standard features, including: steel-housed roller and rotor bearings, central gearbox with internal safety clutch, robust multi V-belt drive, replaceable wear & tear sheets, fixed counter blade. Heavy duty hammer flails each weighing 1.6kg, are mounted on a 195mm rotor, rotating at over 2250rpm. Making the machine suitable for clean cut mowing of fine grass, but also able to handle heavy scrub and woody stems up to 75mm diameter.
Unlike other front-mounted flail mowers, the Sprinter 2800 is pulled rather than pushed. The front headstock arches over the flail head and attaches at the front, allowing the machine to float in slots, over uneven ground for a precise cutting height.
The flail heads hang from their mid-point for perfect balance and can pivot by +/- 3 degrees to follow the contours of the field. The crossbow safety system uses a large leaf spring in the central headstock, allowing the machine to break back by 8 degrees (to the back or font) if an obstacle is struck. The system automatically returns the machine to its working position once the obstacle is passed.
The Sprinter 8500P hydraulically folds to under 3m for road transport, automatic safety locks prevent the unit from unfolding and lock the flail heads in a fixed position.
